It's the end of the world
Posted on Thursday, November 22, 2007 (CST) by Thoth
Mayan apocalyptic theories suggest that the end of the world is imminent. The multi-calendar society of the Mayan Empire predicts that December 21, 2012 will be doomsday. On winter solstice, for the first time in 26,000 years, the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way and some people believe that this will cause a reversal in the magnetic fields of the sun, causing a chain reaction on Earth.
Possible results range from the Earth's rotation change causing massive floods, to the magnetic poles' reversal on Earth, which could act as a catalyst for many natural disasters that could destroy the planet.
Would you classify these doomsayers as utterly delusional? Keep in mind the moral message behind the apocalypse story, which is to treat nature better and achieve the honorability of leading a green life. There are so many outrageous beliefs today, ranging from UFOs to the end of the world as we know it. Why are we as a society so ready and willing to believe in theories? My take is that we want to believe. Not saying that all of society is as gullible as yours truly, but many of us want to have faith in the seemingly impossible.
Our
generation lives with more stress and anxiety than previous
generations. Those who develop the psychological standards that
determine and diagnose personality disorders and phobias have had to
re-evaluate the levels of stress and anxiety that are associated with
these disorders. As a society, we are coping with higher levels of
anxiety. This trend that is raising the norms makes me wonder if we
are building a tolerance to these disorders through evolution. Or are
we all becoming more manic-depressive and we just don't want to admit
the truth? With the stress in our lives, I think we are all just
looking for something else to believe in, something outside of the
normal ideology.
However, given that the
prophecy is true, isn't the end inevitable? Why do we so often worry
about things that are out of our control? Maybe we need excuses to
break our concentration from the monotony of life. Maybe thinking that
the end of the world is near makes us appreciate our lives more. Do we
intentionally create doom theories to give us excuses to lead a more
rounded life with a balance of work and play?
In a world with nuclear
weapons, brain-washed mobs, and close-minded people, sometimes it's
hard not to see how something bad isn't inevitable. Does that mean the
"bad thing" has to be the end of the world? No, but a growing
pessimistic attitude is sweeping through the population that may cause
a more cynical view to be adopted.
Did the Mayans know what
they were doing when they created their various calendars and
predictions? Some evidence has shown that their calendar creations
were based on complicated mathematical algorithms, though others
believe this to be another industry hype to build up the profit line,
leaving the prehistoric people out completely. Dozens of books have
been published on the 2012 theories and with the success of "2012: The
Return of Quetzalcoatl" in 2006, more industries are flooding the
markets with Doomsday products. The powerful mysticism associated with
the apocalyptic theories is the result of it's placement on a day with
such geological significance, that potentially could cause catastrophes
on a larger scale than Hurricane Katrina.
For better or worse, let's
take the warnings as they are, and live our lives to the fullest, with
the hope that '2012' will come later, rather than sooner.

Re: It's the end of the world by Aaron on Thursday, November 22, 2007 (CST) (User Info | Send a Message) | Hey thothies long time no hear.
First of all Whats with the negative spin on 2012?? has anyone watched Ian Xel Lundgolds - 'Welcome to the evolution; Solving the Mayan calendar mystery'?
One theory i have heard is that 2012 is merely the point where we become sick of 'running the machine' - the point where the majority decides 'enough is enough' of this high stakes, high stress, depressive, pointless consumer life that is sweeping the globe. makes sense to me - im sure sick of it!
from my understanding 2012 is an opportunity, a gateway. its upto us which way we jump; (own your actions!!) if the overall polarity of the collective human/ planetary energy field is negative then there may possibly be the opportunity for the 'dark side' to try and drag us further downwards on the whole density/ dimensional scale, but, if we can manage as a collective conscious to pull our finger out and start to be more positive and manifest more positive things in our collective "reality" then we create the possibility to jump higher on the scale. that means that we have to stand upto the powers that be! they are just an illusion people! they may seem omnipotent but thats only because we give them the power!! we are the 'body of the beast' because we let them use us! what is the beast without a body? nothing but a nattering head!
from what i understand the mayan calendar is more than just a calendar in the sense that we know it - where our modern day gregorian calendar orients our awareness to the flow of time the mayan system orients our consciousness to the flow of creation - not just the quantitiy of time but the QUALITY of time. Its always darkest before dawn, we must purge this conflict to feel better as a collective. its weird, i havnt logged in in a while but when i do the first thing that catches my eye is this unusually negative article on what most people who've done their proper research would generally consider a massively positive thing. weird timing because i have also found myself in a bit of a depressive dip lately, i wonder what the mayan calendar has to say on the quality of the substance of this week? has anyone else been having a bad week?
i dont think we create doom theories as a crutch to help us lead more fulfilling lives; i think we SEE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MAJORLY WRONG WITH THE WAY OUR SOCIETY CURRENTLY IS! its general progession seems to be going further down the spiral and we are unconsciously caught in its wake - all it takes is aknowledgement to realise it and action to change it! wake up, realise and change your patterns.
we are waking upto the now undeniable wrongs in the world and realising where we have let our lust for money and "progression/ advancement" take us to where we currently are and realising its not such a nice place. (although many have been fighting against this for a long time)
and remember; dont think 'Im only one person, what can I do?' A VOICE IS ALWAYS HEARD BY SOMEBODY. there is massive potential in being an individual! your personal frequency will always overlap with that of the person standing next to you, thoughts and feelings jump between people through this manner - thus telepathy. being a positive person rubs off!
When will wake upto the fact that we are all ONE WORLD! how can we expect to face what is outside of reality when we have so much internal conflict? purge the bad feelings, purge the conlict and relate! only then will we get a decent view of what is outside of us - on any level be it immediate, planetary, galactic, etc..
Its time to steer this boat home baby! c'mon! i cant do it by myself; - I NEED YOUR HELP!
handbook for the new paradigm - interesting perspective |
Re: It's the end of the world (Score: 1) by Kaya on Thursday, November 22, 2007 (CST) (User Info | Send a Message) | Well said, Aaron. I've yet to see any evidence that the Mayans believed the world would come to an end in 2012. What I have read, however, is that we are approaching the end of an age, and progressing into a new one-- the age of Aquarius. How can we progress into that new age if the earth is destroyed? We can't. The doomsday prophets may as well be working for the dark side because they continually attempt to create massive and widespread fear. If we believe the bad news then how can we possibly avoid it. Personally, I believe the shift will come to all of us, eventually. I don't think it will happen in a day, though. The solstice is just the apex of our turn towards the light.
Regarding the handbook for a new paradigm-- if you're refering to the actual booklet that was offered free of charge, well, I tried to get one and never heard from them again. Not sure if they just lost my address or if it was a scam. |

Re: It's the end of the world by Kerux on Friday, November 23, 2007 (CST) (User Info | Send a Message) | The comment made in the article that some believe that the Sun's magnetic poles witll reverse on 12-21-2012. I guess some people must be unawere that the Sun's magnetic poles automatically reverse every 11.7 years. Until recently when it has be been discovered that Sun's magnetic poles are gone. There are no magnetic poles.
