Psychic fair provides otherworldly glimpses

Answers are in the cards. Or in the palm of your hand. Or in the stars. If it isn't crystal-clear, the Mystic Messengers Psychic Fair seeks to help you find those answers, sometimes by the numbers. On the first Sunday of the month, many of the area's psychic readers gather at the Windmill Suites at St. Philip's Plaza, 4250 N. Campbell Ave. At the fair, the readers say, they seek to unearth answers using tarot, palmistry, numerology or astrology. Sessions with readers are generally limited to $20 per 15 minutes.
Patricia Kirkman, who practices numerology, astrology, intuitive counseling and celestial forecasting, organizes the fair and also personally interviews each reader applying for a table to head off people who would take advantage of those seeking answers, she said.
"There are readers who are as unethical as they come. Our purpose is to help people help themselves," said Kirkman. "Good, honest answers to help them help themselves."

The Thorntree girl with 'The Sixth Sense'

Emilia Rose Taylor, from Thorntree, is only three, but her parents Scott Taylor and Charlene Knight are already convinced that she has a special psychic ability. As a baby, she was prone to going into trances, which doctors thought could be a form of epilepsy. But numerous tests and scans all came back negative. It wasn’t until Emilia began to talk, that Scott, 31, and Charlene, 27, realised there could be more to it.
Ever since she started stringing her first words together, Emilia would often refer to the “old man” who lived in her bedroom cupboard. “I started to wonder if he was some kind of guardian angel,” said Charlene. “No matter where we went she would be saying the old man was there. “I used to say ‘Emilia, there’s no one there’ and she would say ‘Yes there is. And he’s ugly’.
“One day she was sat on her dad’s knee and she started wriggling - saying that the old man kept on tickling her toes. Another time she was shouting at him to get off her toys.”

Rasputin was an Indigo

With piercing crystal blue eyes that penetrated the soul, he wove his web of seductive lies to bewitch the Russian queen, Tsaritsa Alexandra. His lustful and hypnotic nature entranced the royal Romanov’s leading them to a dark and traumatic end. Tsar Nicholas and his family were tragically and brutally murdered by fellow countrymen who believed the Emperor and his family unfit to rule due, in part, to the family’s belief and trust in psychic, healer and mystic Grigori Rasputin.
His ability to woo, possess and charm some of the greatest and most powerful people in history was extraordinary. His courtship of the queen and many other women was exemplary especially considering he was not a man of virtue nor abundant attractiveness. His riches were few as were his manners and practice of hygiene.
The energy that surrounded this man was described as enchanting and alluring. His eyes were the main focal point of his captivating spell, ice blue eyes that mesmerized and entranced his prey.

Author believes that everyone should tap into their intuition

Sherri Zimmerman doesn't believe there is a distinction between the spirit world and the physical one. "I believe that there is only one world - the spirit world," she says. Zimmerman, 47, the author of two self-published books on mental health, will teach people how to connect with both worlds in a four-part lecture series. The seminar will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 24, and Sunday, July 27, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 28 and Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Next Dimensions, 132 Old National Pike. Joining her are Cathy Everly and Patricia Swan Gibson to share their experiences.
Zimmerman, whose second book is titled "Mental Illness and the Psychic Connection," explains the physical world as the one we are living in. The spirit world, she says, is the one that connects people to each other and to those who have passed on.
Women especially, Zimmerman says, often are connected to both worlds, though many don't realize it. The term, "woman's intuition," she says, describes a way of tapping into the spiritual world. Children often don't know the difference between the worlds, she says, because that's when the psyche of a child is formed.

Just act paranormal

In March, producer David Taylor embarked on an unorthodox talent quest. Travelling around the country, he went looking for Australia's hottest psychics - clairvoyants, mind readers, fortune tellers and other practitioners of the paranormal - whose abilities he intended to test before a live studio audience.
Taylor and his team ultimately met about 100 psychics, each of whom was asked to perform one-on-one readings. He then brought seven of the best to Sydney to take part in The One, a new five-part series that tries to uncover Australia's most gifted psychic. People have a huge interest in psychic phenomena, Taylor says. "Just look at TV shows like Charmed and Supernatural and all the astrology columns in newspapers. It's a subject that has mainstream prime time appeal."
With Andrew Daddo as host, The One is like a version of Next Top Model for supernaturalists: seven psychics undergo a series of challenges designed to test their abilities in clairvoyance, telepathy and mediumship, among others. Two judges, psychic Stacey Demarco and sceptic Richard Saunders, decide at the end of each episode who stays and who goes, until the final instalment, when the audience gets to decide which of the remaining spoon-benders is truly The One.
