Young blond woman's ghost haunts restaurant, legend says

It's that time of year when Country House restaurant workers in Clarendon Hills answer as many questions about their ghost as about their half-pound burger. Missy Dupre, the restaurant's hostess, says Country House doesn't brag about its alleged haunted history, but employees are trained to talk about it if need be.
As the story goes, an attractive blond woman who was dating a bartender back in the 1950s came in distraught, asking him to watch her baby. When he refused, she left, and died after driving into a tree.
Whether or not you believe the ghoulish tale, it's been repeated many times over the years — on the Discovery and Travel Channels, in local news reports and on haunted-house Web sites. Some employees have added their own spooky encounters to the running list — the smell of the ghost's perfume, the sound of her footsteps, napkins flying for no reason.

Supernatural Cleaning Methods

The chill of autumn has arrived, and it’s time to make your home cozy and snug. Replace those broken shingles, seal the window frames, start the water boiling and throw in some scented nutmegy things, or a rabbit if you’ve been disappointed in love.
But what to do about that ghost that has been making such a racket, scaring the guests and making it impossible to sleep? Sure, you can kid yourself that it’s a squirrel on the roof or a rattling pipe or a fog that comes up from time to time. (On Narragansett Bay? Sure, pal, that’s credible.) But eventually, when guests and family members become truly frightened, something must be done.
Such was the case with Kathleen Whitehurst, an artist in Arnaudville, La., who scoured the countryside to salvage materials with which to build her home and guest house, the picturesque l’Esprit des Chenes. Visitors complained of creaking stairs, sounds in the night. Some fled in terror. Finally, Ms. Whitehurst called in a specialist.

Taxi Drivers and Ghost

First it was the 'ghost caller', now there are whispers of cab drivers in Honiara picking 'ghost passengers' as night falls. Solomon Times probed in a random interview on street talks of cab drivers claiming to have picked up 'ghost passengers'. The norm is for passengers in need of cab service to call and your ride gets at your doorstep in no time.
Cab drivers however often get the spooks when night falls as many claim to "come face-to-face" with ghosts. "Street talks allege that these cab drivers believe they have been seeing ghosts and worse scenerios are of some claiming to having ghost passengers," Melinda Manu told Solomon Times.
A cab driver approached revealed that he had an eerie experience of picking up a passenger at Panatina field "who just disappeared in the vehicle". "I later realised that this guy, who died early this year used to drive a taxi," the cab driver said.

Spooky turns can leave theatre patrons going cold

There was a moment, during a tour of the Edinburgh Playhouse a few years ago, that I was filled with a feeling of dread. We were talking about the theatre's ghost at the time, when all of a sudden, the air turned icy. Spooky.
Cold spots are nothing new to staff at the Playhouse. An all pervasive chill has been known to descend on certain areas of the theatre in seconds ... and then dissipate just as quickly. Local folklore has it that the phenomenon indicates the presence of Albert, the theatre's ghost – apparently he was a stage door man at the venue, who died backstage many years ago.
However, the Playhouse isn't the only theatre in Edinburgh to boast a ghost. As Albert sends shivers down spines at the Greenside Place venue, over at the Festival Theatre it's the spectre of Victorian magician The Great Lafayette who plays his tricks.

6 notorious prisons offer ghostly thrills

Looking for ghostly thrills this Halloween? Head straight to prison. Old closed prisons are often crumbling, dank fortresses with histories of flying orbs, moving furniture, noises in the night and chilly bursts of air. They draw serious-minded paranormal explorers who blame ghosts of mistreated inmates looking for a way out, or those of prison personnel killed in escapes or riots.
The Ohio State Reformatory at Mansfield in north-central Ohio has it all and flaunts it in its Halloween "Prison of the Evil Dead" haunted house experience through Nov. 1. Children under 13 are forbidden.
The prison, with a soaring six-tier cell block, was used for the film "The Shawshank Redemption" and other productions. It first opened in 1910 and wasn't completely closed until 1990. The Halloween presentation, offered late at night like most, includes actors, animatronics and other special effects.
